What makes The Garden different from every other research park?
Although research is worthy of it's own pursuit, it is the application of research to the marketplace that brings true innovative ideas into fruition. The Garden is founded upon the goal of cultivating ideas from mind to market. Rather than producing simply research, our approach is to intentionally connect the best ideas with industry, thus impacting more than publication circles, but more importantly impacting the marketplace.

How far from Southern Miss campus?
The Garden is located approximately five miles from the Southern Miss campus.

Why is it called The Garden?
The Garden is founded with the intent of acting as a garden of new ideas, one that will cultivate ideas from mind to market.

Can any startup company locate to The Garden, or are there special requirements my company must meet?
Approximately 200 acres of land in The Garden are available to be developed by organizations who want to collaborate with Southern Miss researchers and move new ideas to the marketplace.

What's included in leasing rates, and what's not included?
Lease rates in The Accelerator include utilities, internet, access to shared facilities, fully-furnished office/cubicle spaces (depending upon leased space), access to analytical testing equipment, university resources, collaborative spaces, social networking events, capital strategy resources, business services, and more. Amenities/services not included in rent are analytical service and testing fees, technology commercialization fees, laboratory or office customization (although you can customize if needed)

Will office space/cubicles be furnished?
Yes. Offices contain one desk, storage, one desk chair and two guest chairs. Depending upon the leased laboratory size, cubicles contain either four or six workstations, including storage and chairs. Who operates The Garden?
The University of Southern Mississippi owns and operates the 521 acres that comprise of The Garden. Partnerships with The Area Development Partnership, the City of Hattiesburg, and other organizations have shaped the development of The Garden, and continue to do so today.
